WILD GAME BANQUET 2016 – February 6th was our 25th Anniversary Wild Game Banquet and it was a great one!  Seven Hundred and Eighty Five people attended and enjoyed a feast of Elk Tips and Gravy, Turkey, Fish,  Pheasant Stroganoff, mashed potatoes, and green beans, along with appetizers such as Buffalo Wings, Meatballs, Venison Chili, Elk Sausage, and  veggie & cheese trays.  We need to thank Stolfa’s for preparing and serving the food.  Thanks goes to the Interstate Center for providing such a great place to have this event.  Thank You to the Haycraft Auctioneers for handling the Live Auction.  But most importantly, Thank You to the sponsors who donate their services and products to make this a success.Thank you also goes to the 785 individuals that attended and made this banquet one of the best ones ever.  Congrats to DAVID VANCE, who was voted as the SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR.  Mark your calendar now our next Banquet will be February 4, 2017.

BOATER’S SAFETY CLASS -  Scheduled for March 5, 2016 is a class geared for young adults to learn proper boater safety providing certification to operate boats on Illinois waters.  This class is also for other individuals planning on going to Canada to fish, where certification is required to operate boats on their waters.  Contact Jerry Martoglio at 309-826-0930 to register or for more info.

 

YOUTH ANTLER HUNT - Free event limited to 100 youths, ages 15yrs. and younger.  There will be over 200+ antlers to find and every child will be able to take home one antler.   This event is scheduled for Saturday, April 23rd, 2016 beginning at 10:00AM and will go until all antlers have been found.  This event will be located at the corner of 2300 N. Rd. and 1300 E. Rd., Hudson, IL.  This is close to the Comlara Park Archery Range near Evergreen Lake.  To registe, send an email to :  rossfogle@gmail.com   including information on the number of children participating, their ages, and a telephone number.  Deadline to register is April 16th, 2016.

 

YOUTH FISHING DERBY - Is scheduled for June 4, 2016 at Miller Park Lake, Bloomington, IL.  Registration will begin at 8AM and fishing will begin at 9AM.  This event is FREE to all kids.  More information to follow.

 

HUNTER’S SAFETY CLASS - Our hunter safety class is scheduled for July 19th, 21st, and 23rd.  For more information and to register, contact Larry Dowden at 309-527-2562.  Also the required Field Day for those that take the online hunter safety class will have choice of two dates May 14, 2016 or September 3, 2016.  Again contact Larry Dowden above for more information and to register.

 

YOUTH WING SHOOTING CLINIC -  This wing shooting clinic is sponsored by the McLean County Sportsmen’s Association and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.  It is open to young men ages 10 years old to 15 years old (inclusive) and young women/ladies ages 10 years old and up.  The IDNR has been involved in training sportsmen and women through it’s Safety Education Section b sponsoring wing shooting clinics and youth hunting programs for many years.  This is a one day event, so sign up for either date.  Enrollment will be limited to the first 24 participants for each day, and young men or women/ladies can sign up for either date.  A permission slip needs to be signed by the parents/guardians of participants under the age of 18.  .28-gauge shotguns and shells will be provided and shooters may bring a personal shotgun, if they wish, just note that on your registration form so that we can have the proper size shells available to match your gun.  The dates for this event are Saturday, April 30th, 2016 and Sunday, May 1st, 2016 from 10:oo AM to 4:00 PM each day and will be held at Moraine View State Recreation Area, 27374 Moraine View Park Road.  There is a nonrefundable $10 fee for each participant.  Lunch will be provided to all that attend.

JUNE 18TH, 2016 AT EVERGREEN LAKE IS CONSERVATION DAY - at Comlara Park with many events scheduled for the kids, including a fishing pond.  More information to follow or you can contact the McLean County Soil & Water Conservation District office at 309-452-0830 and ask for Jackie.
